Position Overview
The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs manages initiatives at the heart of Spertus Institute’s mission: the outstanding and relevant graduate, professional, and public programs that are made possible by thoughtfully constructed curricula and outstanding faculty, mentors, and presenters.

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs reports directly to the Dean/Chief Academic Officer (CAO).

Responsibilities 

  • Provide academic advising for graduate Jewish Studies and Jewish Professional Studies (masters and doctoral level) students from diverse backgrounds, with varied academic and professional interests, working in a broad range of professions.

  • Oversee student services functions, especially the work of the Registrar and various associated reporting requirements.

  • Oversee the robust mentorship program that has become the hallmark of professional studies at Spertus, including working with the Coordinator of Mentoring and Executive Coaching to identify and connect students and mentors, to train mentors, and to advance research on and best practices of mentoring in a meaningful way.

  • Teach courses (at least four annually) in the Associate Dean’s area of related research in Jewish Studies and/or Jewish Professional Studies while maintaining a research and publishing presence befitting an accredited and increasingly global institution of higher Jewish education.

  • Oversee the scheduling of adjunct and part-time faculty, who are central to the mission of the Institute, providing them with resources and professional development, and maintaining their files and dossiers.

  • Work with the Dean/CAO on assessment of student learning, including the development and application of assessment tools, the collection of data, and the use of that data to improve extant and develop new programs and services, as well as ongoing program evaluation of Spertus offerings to meet requirements for accreditation, compliance, and quality improvement purposes.

  • Identify needs and opportunities for new programs and educational offering, and develop proposals and curricula.

Position Requirements

  • Earned doctoral degree in a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in academic affairs or relevant administrative experience.
  • Experience teaching graduate students in Jewish Studies or related fields.

Related Skills or Knowledge

  • Must have strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and public speaking/presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated teaching and research skills. Proven success in working with diverse constituents.
  • Proven ability to strategically plan and successfully manage multiple simultaneous projects with numerous components and fixed deadlines.

Language skills: Hebrew a plus.
Travel: Minimal, as needed.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000
  • Attractive Benefit Package includes vacation and holiday time off, medical and dental insurance, retirement savings, and employee assistance program.

Start Date

  • Flexible, but preferred by July 1, 2020
